What do you term as being in the presence of God? Is it religiously doing your everyday Bible devotional? Checking in on your daily Bible study guide? What exactly is it to you?
My thoughts
The presence of God is a place where you meet with God, where you commune with God, and where you converse with God. As Christians and believers, we have that presence in us, in-dwelling in us, immediately we received the life of Christ during conversion. But the question is, how do we cultivate that presence, how do we engage ourselves, grow in that union with God every single day?
A lot of believers think it’s so hard to enter into that presence, even I used to. Fully knowing the fact that I had God in me, I still always doubted it and thought that because of one ‘sin’ that I didn’t even commit, that I was ineligible to carry the presence of God.
(If you struggle with this particular thing, this verse - Romans 8:1, is for you)
I tell you, I cheated myself in this, and I want you to know that it is so unfair for you to deem yourself ineligible for God’s Presence when he has called you, chosen you, washed you (1Peter 2:9), why then make yourself feel bad?
I want you to know in your heart that - God always delights in your presence, and in having you with him. From the example of Adam and Eve, we can see that God always wanted to fellowship with men (Genesis 3:8 - where he came in the cool of the day to fellowship with them). It was so priceless to him, he really valued it. It is all laid in the Bible- how he delights so much in his staying with his people (Psalms 22:3). He really values this relationship so much, and he sure would not lose it for anything.
To get into the presence of God; firstly, there’s something I need to correct.
The presence of God is not something that is away from you, that is far from you as a believer- you have it, you own it, you have already received it, as long as you’ve accepted him as your Lord and Saviour.
So it’s not far from you, and I really just wanted to clear that notion, okay? Okay. So, here are some of the things that can help you ‘stay’ in his presence:
i. Accepting that it is my reality, and where I’m meant to forever be
I realized that I just used to think I was a visitor to the Lord’s presence, like I was just meant to visit his presence- stay there for a while, and then disappear. I never chose to accept that I was meant to cultivate, manifest and fully abide in the presence of God, as in my abode. My ignorance on this was such a grave thing for me, and I lived with the consequences of that.
So, for you today- I want you to accept this sweet reality, and choose to stay in the presence of God. Know that there is no place better for you than this and that that is where you’re meant to be.
ii. Surrendering to the Holy Spirit
As simple and as easy as this statement sounds, it is something I have struggled with understanding, a lot. I was so confused about the meaning and what it entailed, I was really confused- I had to seek help about it.
So what I’d like you to do is - Pray, first of all, because that’s of course where all the wisdom comes from; Study the Scriptures, Lookup insightful content, and I’m sure that you’d receive the accurate and adequate help you need.
As a good start, below is the link to a video explaining how you can surrender to the Holy Spirit, created by Encounter TV on YouTube:

We all know that in the presence of God, there is only one possibility - to be filled with joy! that sounds so cliche, but it’s sooo TRUE. So, here are some advantages I gained, from dwelling in the Lord’s presence:
i. Peace
Thou will keep in perfect peace,
whose mind is stayed on thee,
because he trusteth in thee (Isaiah 26:3)
This is exactly the word of God to us, from the Bible. He says he will not just give us, but keep us in perfect peace - because our minds are stayed on him. God is so great and marvellous, and all he wants for us is the very best.
If there’s anything I’ve learned from being in the presence of God, this is surely it.
In his presence, I’ve come to ascertain my standpoint as the champion that I truly am. I’ve fought battles by God’s power, I’ve been reassured of the victory I have in Christ Jesus, I’ve climbed mountains that I didn’t think I’d ever climb….what more have I not done through God?
I’m really so grateful that I’m forever bound in the presence of God, because it has helped me so much.
iii. I gained insights into areas of my life
By my virtue of being in the presence of God, I’ve gained insights that I know I’d never have gained if I were somewhere else. God has given me so many instructions, so much direction, as to how to go about areas of my life, and it’s just so mind-blowing - these things.
